If you haven’t seen it yet, the Vanity Fair article on Tinder – entitled “Tinder And The Dawn of the Dating Apocalypse”, I highly recommend it.

As someone who has been married for 11 years now, and with his wife for 14 years, some of the new dating and mating trends made possible by the new dating apps is…astounding. And dramatic.

I’ve been thinking for several years now, as smartphone use become endemic in our society, that we psychotherapists will be in a growth business – just teaching people how to be….human!

The business of being intimate with another person, of being alone with one’s thoughts, of being bored…these are all becoming rarer for young people.

One of the most telling moments in the article for me is the discussion of erectile difficulties for young men in their early 20’s. ED in healthy young men is also one of the noted pieces of data in Gary Wilson’s TED Talk – “The Great Porn Experiment” (you can watch it here on my TED Talks page).

I’d be curious to hear what people who dated before AND after Tinder have to say. Any of you out there? Please leave a comment!
